Makita LS1221 Review will give you all of the information you need about this saw.
This Makita’s miter saw, introduced in 2004, is one of the most favorite saws on the market for its accurate cuts and powerful motor. Yet, it still has some drawbacks that you should be aware of.
Who Should Buy This Miter Saw?
By reading this Makita LS1221 Review, you will have the chance to discover whether the Makita’s miter saw is worth the money or not.
A few weeks ago, I bought this miter saw for many reasons, which I will mention later in the article. And much to my expectations, the tool helped a lot.
The machine proves itself a great tool for both experts and DIY weekend enthusiasts for its tall fence, extension wings, and acceptable cutting capacity.
With a 15 amp motor and a 12-inch blade, the saw can easily cut an 8-inch wide board, making it a competitor to others.
The Makita also enlarges the cutting capacity of the tool by designing it with a 4000 rpm of blade speed.
For such great power, the saw proves itself a tool that can handle many tasks.
Easy-to-read Miter Scale
The tool can turn to more than 45° in both directions. Not just that, the saw is capable of stopping at 9 settings: 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45° right or left and 0° (90° cuts). As a result, you can do some unusual cuts with it when doing trim moldings. That means the machine is absolutely suitable for experts rather than occasional woodworkers.
Apart from the blade and the miter scale, the equipment’s extension wing is one thing I like most. It helps me cut longer materials accurately and effortlessly.
Although this feature may not be that important for beginners, it is a useful tool to handle crown molding or house frames for professional contractors.
For a weight of 48.7 pounds, this saw is truly one of the lightest products on the market.
With this feature, you will find it easy not only when carrying the tool around on job sites but also when transporting it from this place to another.
And so, this Makita’s miter saw is a good investment for woodworkers who have to work on different construction sites or have a small workplace.
What Needs Improvement?
The Makita LS1221 miter saw is a useful tool. However, there are still some downsides that I hope the manufacturer will improve.
One sad thing is that the miter can not tilt to both sides. Thus, it is hard for hobbyists and beginners to handle different edges of a board, and they have to adjust their materials a lot.
The second thing is that there is no laser guide. It is a pity for a miter saw like this. Without the laser guide, it is more difficult for unprofessional carpenters to cut precisely. However, without this feature, this miter saw is still a functional and handy tool.
Makita LS1221 Alternatives
As this Makita saw has no laser guide and can not dual-bevel, the two following miter can be some of the best substitutes.
Hitachi C12RSH2’s features are no different from the LS1221’s. It has a dual bevel miter saw with a laser marker.
But what makes it a much better saw than the Makita’s saw is its compact sliding system, a helpful feature for occasional woodworkers and carpenters.
DeWalt DWS716XPS is one of the best investments when you want to own a miter saw at the same price tag but can dual-bevel. This DeWalt’s product is a 12-inch miter saw with portability, accuracy, and a powerful motor.
