Dewalt DW716 vs DWS780: Which Double-Bevel Is Better For you?

Dewalt DW716 vs DWS780

With varieties of miter saws in the market nowadays, it’s crucial for professionals woodworkers to find their most suitable tool. Between Dewalt DW716 vs DWS780, the DW716 is more appropriate for beginners or homeowner who want to pursue more professional works. But in terms of highly skills woodworkers, it would be best to go for the DWS780.

Personally, I would go for the later model, which is the DWS780. Even though it does not fit with a budgeted option for some customers, the machines itself worth all the cost. Are you curious about why it’s so? Let’s find out!

Differences Between Dewalt DW716 vs DWS780

Design

When it comes to miter saws, the designers and construction are not very special or unique.

Unlike other kitchen gadgets or home appliances, the designs of Dewalt DWS780 vs DW716 come with standard stainless steel material and yellow plastic coated on several areas. They are the very two durable and sturdy machines that are also adjustable for accuracy and precision.

One of the plus for the Dewalt DW716 miter saw is the lightweight design. While its competitor offers 56 pounds, the product weighs only 44 pounds. Some of you might prefer to have a lightweight gadget with a built-in carry handle that is portable for work. And guess what? This machine is the perfect choice for you.

However, I also understand the needs of those who love to work with a heavy-duty machine that has a solid feeling and doesn’t easily “flip the table up.” The DWS780 might work for those customers in this case.

As for me, I will go for the DWS716 in this round. It’s simple to bear on a construction site and quite convenient to arrive at different places.

Accuracy

By applying the top speed of 3800 RPM, both products are strong and fast enough that allows users to slide tough materials without breaking any sweat. Like the Dewalt DHS790AT2, the DW716 model complies with 11 position stops, generating more accuracy and exactness for cutting than the DWS780.

Given to this exactness a massive boost is the double-bevel feature that allows users to cut material in two directions. It’s quite time-saving, and you won’t have to stop in the middle of the process to alter the wood piece, which causes error and reduce the precise level.

One of the differences that affect greatly to the accuracy of cutting wood is the blade positioning system. Dewalt DW716 miter saw upgrades its cut line indication by applying the LED light system, in which the shadow of the blade creating a straight line on the cutting wood.

On the other hand, Dewalt DW716 sticks to the classic laser system. I reckon the laser is slightly more precise, but many users claim that having the LED light from both sides of the blade is awesome. Firstly, you have enough brightness for your working area. Secondly, the light casting a shadow on the blade allows users to know exactly where it touches the wood material, which is more accurate than the laser.

The Dewalt DW716 has one more position stop, but the integrated cutline system of DWS780 is better. Therefore, I will go for the DWS780 miter saw.

Capacity

Having the same 12 inches of blade diameter, two products show their different cutting wood’s ability. The total crosscut ability of Dewalt DWS780 at 90 degrees is 14 inches, while its competitor is only 12 inches.

For example, with 45 degrees of bevel cut capacity, the Dewalt DW780 can do with a 2×14 dimensional plumber. But the Dewalt DWS716 can only handle up to 2×8 dimensional wood panels.

Moreover, the sliding fence helps DWS780 reach 7-1/2-inch vertical capacity molding in a nested place and 6-3/4-inches for base molding. The DW716 is not as strong. It comes 6-⅝ inches for the vertical crown and processes the cuts with 6-1/2-inches vertical height with baseboard.

In terms of capacity, I believe the DWS780 deserves a winning point.

Blade

Both machines are designed for professionals; therefore, the blade dimensions are as large as the  projects that expert workers are working on. If you are a total newbie who knows nothing about working with a miter saw, these two are not suitable for you.

However, if you want to improve your skill, you can go for the Dewalt DW716. It has a sharp 12 inches carbide blade that increases the heat resistance and durability while operating. The blade works perfectly as the Dewalt DWS780 miter saw – the more expensive model.

Basically, my point is that both blades work excellently for cutting woods. But you can get a much cheaper option, same quality, and same dimensions if purchasing Dewalt DW716.

Conclusion

My conclusion for the battle between Dewalt DW716 vs DWS780 is that if you’re an amateur who wants to have a peek at the professional vibe, the DW716 is the best suit.

I prefer the DWS780 very much, but this is a costly device that experts can only utilize. If you don’t put wood-making as the every-day-work for yourself, it might be a waste to purchase the product.
